I left school in 2003 after my GCSEs then studied for a BTEC National Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science at Gateshead College. After completing my diploma I went to Loughborugh University studying Sport.

Domestic football career

England v Spain
I signed for Sunderland Women in the summer of 2005 when I was 18. In October 2005 I won the Women's Player of the Month award for September. A year later I joined Everton Ladies in July 2006 where I stayed for 7 seasons before joining Manchester City November 2013.

International career

South Korea v England
I played for the England Under-19s side, scoring three times in three games as we won through the first round of qualifying for the 2006 UEFA Under-19s tournament where I was skipper.

My first England senior squad came in May 2006, making my debut against Holland in August 2006, coming on as a late sub in a 4–0 win. I then made the squad for the 2007 World Cup and scored my first international goal against Argentina, we won 6-1.

In May 2009, I was one of the first female players to be given central contracts by the FA. Also that year I was in the squad for the 2009 UEFA Women's European Championships and scored the winner as we beat Holland in the semi-final.

Two years later at the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup I scored against New Zealand and France in the quarter final, but we lost on penalties!!
